 Module 2...

After completing mod 1 and being pleasantly surprised with my feedback and result I felt ready to take on mod 2. To begin with if I'm honest I felt like there was a lot to take in, but after two sessions and having everything broken down I feel much better and excited to get all my ideas down on paper.

I am currently looking into my little wonder at the moment and I would like to look deeper into how fundamental dance is within the National Curriculum in primary schools. Some of my thoughts at the moment are spiralling into why teachers don't feel confident to teach dance, should you have to be specifically qualified, or should teachers have the opportunity to access more training courses? This is something that I am crossed with weekly going into schools to deliver dance, and the general confidence of teachers I go to work with is very low on the subject.

However dance in schools now isn't just being able to teach children to physically dance in time to music, its all about building self confidence and having the ability to tell a story through movement which links in with my areas of learning from module 1.

Has anyone else taught dance in an educational setting? What expectations did the school have for you?

  1. Hi Emma,

I was also feeling very overwhelmed with module 2 as it seems so much more to do but having the zoom sessions has really helped.

I love your idea and think you should keep going into it, I don't know if you recall but I was surprised to hear how very little confidence teachers have to teach Dance. As when I was a young student dance was always that one subject that was encouraged in PE if it wasn't dance it was gymnastics or rhythmic gymnastics. But looking back now we always had guest teachers teaching these. I wonder if it is because teachers feel like they lack the skills in order to teach dance and don't know where to begin.

I do also agree with your point about it's not about just dance but about self confidence and being able to express physically.

Hi everyone my name is Emma and welcome to my first ever blog!  I’ve just started on the BAPP course and had my first online meeting last week. Normally when I think of a uni ‘lecture’ I think of someone talking for hours on end and lots of notes being taken.. however to my surprise this was far from it. It was only 30 seconds into our chat that we were then asked to go and find an object in the house that represents ourselves. Well at first I found this really hard, looking at loads of objects and failing to see any connection of myself in them. Then I walked past the bathroom and spotted the bubble bath sitting there. Knowing I only had about 30 seconds left I grabbed it and returned to the chat. Luckily the more I thought about it the more connections I could find between myself and bubble bath. I feel like I have a very bubbly personality, I’m a very calm and relaxed person who also has a lot of time for other people.  We were then given 90 seconds each to explain to the o...
Academic Writing Hi everyone, I just wanted to share some of my recent thoughts about academic writing. Again at first I wasn't 100% sure on what I was expecting the meeting to be about or what I was going to take away from it. However I was again surprised at how engaging and practical both Ruth and Peter made the sessions. Personally I thought the component I would struggle most with during this course was the 'writing to a degree standard' so I already felt a little out my comfort zone before joining the sessions as like most Ive had a few years out of writing. I was soon put at ease and throughout the session started to gain more confidence and understanding of what was expected from our writing. In my second session there were two third module students which again I learnt so much from during such a short space of time. The ways in which they could break into a text and express their personal thoughts and even relate them back to their studies was educational to see. ...
